The First Sino-European Train (Tangshan Port-Antwerp) was Successfully opened 2018-04-28

At 12:08 of the morning of April 26, with deputy mayor Cao Quanmin announcing that the Sion-European train from Tangshan Port to Antwerp was officially opened, the trains filled with containers were driven out of Tangshan Port Jingtang Port Area and went to Antwerp, Belgium. This was the first Sino-European train driven from Tangshan Port, which indicated that Tangshan’s international railway logistics channel communicating with the world, had opened up. Ambassador Klein of Belgian Embassy in China attended the opening ceremony.

Antwerp, as an important city in Belgium, also serves as a famous port city in Europe. It can bring more advantages to Sino-European trains in terms of geographical location and trade radiation range. Klein said that the train from Tangshan Port to Antwerp had become a bridge connecting Europe and China, which was not only an exchange of goods and trade, but also represented the friendship between China and Belgium, Europe. He wished that the two sides would further expand exchanges and strengthen all-round cooperation in various fields.

The first Sino-European train starts from Tangshan Port Jingtang Port Area after closing the customs, passes through Beijing, Hohhot, Baotou, Hami, Urumqi and exits from Alashankou Port. Then, it passes through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, and Germany and finally arrives in Antwerp, Belgium. The whole course is about 11,000 kilometers, and the running time is about 16 days, which saves about 16 to 40 days compared to the traditional shipping. The first train carries 41 containers and the types of goods included kaolin and yeast. The post goods sources will mainly be fine steel, building materials, ceramics, furniture, and home appliances.

As the forerunner of the new silk road economic belt land route, the convenient, fast, efficient, and low-cost Sino-European train has already begun to gain favor, and it also provides Tangshan with a new path to go outside. The successful opening of Sino-European train at Tangshan Port establishes a water and land international transport network that uses Jingtang Port as a hub to cover Sanbei, connect Central Asia and lead to Europe. It is a vivid practice for Tangshan Port Group to fully promote high quality development. Besides, it is also an important measure for Tangshan City to fully integrate the initiative of “One Belt and One Road” and strengthen the cooperation with the production capacity of the countries along the route.

Up to now, Tangshan Port Group has fully promoted the opening and cooperation of ports, and opened 33 domestic and foreign container routes in the direction of sea routes, and achieved a high-density full-coverage on major domestic coastal ports including seven basic ports of South Korea’s Pusan Port and Japan’s Kanto and Kansai. Through the cooperation with Tianjin Port, the foreign trade internal branch lines of the two ports can transfer the goods of Jingtang Port to all parts of the world. At present, the Jingtang Port waterway has access to more than 190 ports in more than 70 countries in the world. On the land transport network, it seizes the opportunity of “One Belt and One Road”, and the first batch of demonstration projects in China—Tangshan Port Group “Eastern Coastal—Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Northwest” container sea (transport) railway (road) public (road) intermodal projects have been vigorously expanded. What’s more, 6 inland ports and more than 20 container stations are set up in Shanxi (Jinzhong, Xinzhou, Shuozhou), Inner Mongolia (Ordos, Wuhai) and Xinjiang (Urumqi); within the year, 7 inland ports of Shanxi (Antang), Inner Mongolia (Hohhot, Saraqi, Linhe), and Xinjiang (Hami, Urumqi Sanping, Kuitun) are expected to be established; 15 sea-rail transport links have been opened to connect Northwest China; and “China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia” containerized sea-rail transport international trains have been operating stably for two years.
