Located in the center of Bohai Bay, Tangshan City has obvious advantages. She is located in the east of Hebei Province, longitude 117°31'-11 9°19'E, and latitude 38°55'-40°28'N, facing Qinhuangdao City across the (Luan) River in the east, Bohai Sea in the south, Beijing Municipality and Tianjin Municipality in the west, Yanshan Mountain across the Great Wall and Chengde City in the north, her total area is 13,472 square kilometers, with the jurisdiction area of 5,478.9 square kilometers, the planned area of the central urban area of 210 square kilometers, and the built-up area of 117.2 square kilometers. 

With the location in the traffic fortress, Tangshan City is the throat area from North China to Northeast China, with railways, roads, highways, and ports intertwined. The four railway trunk lines of Beijing-Harbin, Tongtuo, Beijing-Qinhuangdao and Dalian-Qinhuangdao and the Jingshan, Daqin, Qiluan, Qiancao, and Luangang railways traverse the whole region. Beijing-Shenyang, Tianjin-Tangshan, Tanggang, Tangshan-Chengde and coastal expressways intersect and connect with the ring expressways and national highways to form a network of extending in all directions. Tangshan Port and Jingtang Port Area face Qinhuangdao Port in the east. Caofeidian Port Area is adjacent to Tianjin Port in the west. Their location between Tianjin Port and Qinhuangdao Port make them important ports for international navigation. The intertwined network of railways, expressways, highways and ports has placed Tangshan in an extremely convenient position to travel.
