On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the "2024 Sino-US (City Club) Invitational Tournament of Youth Short-Track Speed Skating" was held in the skating rink of High-tech Development Zone, Tangshan City on March 23. Eight teams composed of over 50 young athletes from China and the United States participated in the competition and exchanges. Wu Dajing, Winter Olympic champion, was invited to be present and participate in an exhibition game of mixed relay race with the athletes.  

At the joint welcome banquet for American friendship groups held in San Francisco in November, 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping announced in his speech that China was ready to extend an invitation to 50,000 American teenagers to China for exchanges and study in the next five years. The event is designed to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions, and actively promote more Chinese and American teenagers to participate in ice and snow events in Tangshan for a mutual "Frozen Romance" in the post-Olympic era.  

Divided into groups of A, B and C according to the best results of athletes, the competition is made up of 500-meter and 1,000-meter male and female events. Athletes from The Milwaukee Ice Sports School of the United States, and ice clubs in Beijing Municipality, Tianjin Municipality, Hebei Province, Jilin Province, and Changchun City participated in the competition. Made up of the athletes of each team in a mixed way, four performance teams of red, yellow, blue and green conducted an exhibition game of mixed 2,000-meter relay race at the event. Among them, Olympic champion of short-track speed skating Wu Dajing and national champion of Tian Minshuo from Hebei Province were on the same team as the American young athletes, demonstrating the solid foundation of Sino-US people-to-people friendship. Upon the end of the exhibition game, Wu Dajing quoted General Secretary Xi Jinping as saying that "The hope of Sino-US relations lies in the people, with the foundation in the people, the future in the youth, and the vitality in the locality."  

Subsequently, Chinese and American athletes jointly performed figure skating and ice dance. The young athletes from Tangshan Ice Hockey Team of U10 played an exhibition game of ice hockey.
