Recently, the 21st Chinese American Film Festival announced the exciting news that the film Soul Searching, shot in Qian'an, has been nominated for the festival's prestigious Golden Angel Award.
With a clever premise, the film follows Bai Fugui, a Great Wall conservationist, on a quest to find a missing brick of the Great Wall that contains an engagement ring. Through a black humor touch, it weaves together the intertwined destinies and emotional entanglements of diverse characters living at the foot of the Great Wall. The story deeply explores and showcases the profound emotional connection between ordinary people and the Great Wall, a national symbol. Ultimately, amidst the twists and turns of the search, the film reveals the far-reaching significance and value of preserving this cultural heritage.
According to reports, Soul Searching began filming in Qian'an on December 27, 2023, and successfully wrapped up on January 30, 2024. It is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide in November 2025. In addition to its nomination for the Golden Angel Award at the 2025 21st Chinese American Film Festival, the film has previously been selected for several prestigious programs, including the 2022 Golden Rooster Films Project screenplay project, the 2024 26th Shanghai International Film Festival "Work in Progress" project, and the 2024 18th FIRST International Film Festival industry screening section. It also won the 2024 10th Hebei Provincial Literary and Artistic Revitalization "Outstanding Work Award".
