Baiyang Valley Great Wall Tourist Area sits in Baiyang Valley Village, Dacuizhuang Town, Qian’an City, Hebei Province, which is highly accessible and adjacent to the Qian’an Extension of Beijing-Qinhuangdao Expressway, 75km away from Qinhuangdao to the east and 200km away from Beijing to the west. Sitting against the Great Wall and featured with ecological folk customs, the Tourist Area boasts majestic, sheer, elegant, and antique natural attractions as well as novel, breath-taking, tranquil, and graceful humanistic attractions as its tourist resources.
The complete ancient defense system rally here, including the winding and magnificent Great Wall of Ming Dynasty, the Marble Great Wall, the City of Diversion, the Deity Tower, castles, and city walls. The Baiyang River flows through the Pass from north to south in all the four seasons.
The water is clear enough to be seen through, in which fishes and shrimps are playing around as if they were disporting with tourists. As an ideal tourist destination, Baiyang Valley Tourist Area enjoys stunning views and enjoyable climate, thus being rated as the “South in the North”. A series of historic stories and beautiful legends also make this place more charming, including the Grinder Watched by Emperor Qianlong, the Seven Pine Trees Climbing High, the Turtle Blocking River, and the Stone Monkey Climbing Wall.
Baiyang Valley, also known as Yanggu Pass, is a critical pass of the Great Wall and a portal to the Norther Desert. Known as “Imposing Passes”, the Lengkou Pass is famous for its steepness while the Baiyang Pass is known for its stateliness. According to historic records, the Baiyang Valley Great Wall was built by the Yan State during the Warring States Period, and the Baiyang Pass was set because of the magnificent landforms.
It is also where the relic of the Court of Censors is, which was an organ to supervise the defending troop deployed from Shuntianfu (the capital area) to Shanhai Pass in the Longqing Reign and Wanli Reign of Ming Dynasty. The famous general Qi Jiguang repaired and consolidated the Baiyang Pass during his tenure in the northern area, and built a new section of Marble Great Wall that is extremely magnificent.
