Bodhi Island is a national AAAA level scenic area with a total area of 5.07 square kilometers. It is a demonstration area for tourism ecology in Hebei, a scenic spot for tourism in Hebei, and a trustworthy tourism unit in Hebei Province. With the theme of Buddhist and ecological tourism, it is the closest to the capital of Beijing. As the first scenic spot for all-the-year-round tour in the north, it enjoys the praise of "Buddha Country on the Sea", "Natural Zoo & Botanical Garden Suspended in the Sea" and "International Bird Watching Base". It was rated as one of the ten most beautiful islands in China by the State Oceanic Administration in 2015.
Over 2,600 Bodhi trees growing on the island forms the rare forest in the north. Shakyamuni became a Buddha before he ascended to heaven under the Bodhi tree, so Buddhist disciples enshrined it as a sacred tree, with the belief that Bodhi tree is equal to the Buddha, which in turn strengthened the cultural atmosphere of Buddhism on the island.
There are over 260 types of plants on Bodhi Island, including Bodhi Tree, Sour Jujube King, Wood Silk Cotton, which are unique to the north of the Yellow River. Even the rare small leaf puffer, southern snake vine, etc. in the north are thriving on the island. Its natural vegetation coverage is as high as 98%, and the negative oxygen concentration isno less than 20,000 per cubic centimeter, making it a true natural oxygen bar. Bodhi Island is also known as an international birdwatchingbasewith more than 400 species of birds, including 68 species of first-class and second-class protected birds, for which reason it is also known as a natural zoo and botanical garden suspended in the sea.
