Tangshan Earthquake Resistant Memorial Hall is located in the Earthquake Resistance Monument Square in the center of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. It was founded in 1986, originally named as "Tangshan Earthquake Data Exhibition Hall". In 1996, it was expanded and renovated, and renamed as "Tangshan Earthquake Resistant Memorial Hall".

In 1995, Tangshan Earthquake Resistant Memorial Hall was designated as a patriotism education base with modern themes by the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, Hebei Provincial Government, Tangshan Municipal Party Committee and Tangshan Municipal Government. In September 1996, it was jointly named as the "National Patriotism Education Base for Primary and Secondary Schools" by six ministries and commissions including the State Education Commission, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In June 2001, it was named as the "National Patriotism Education Base" by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. Meanwhile, it is a national science-popularizing education base for earthquake prevention and disaster reduction, a national 3A-level scenic spot and one of the first-batch provincial-level defense education bases. The memorial hall shoulders the glorious responsibility of inheriting and promoting the excellent humanistic and historical heritage of Tangshan, popularizing scientific knowledge of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction, and publicizing and demonstrating the construction achievements of a new Tangshan after the earthquake.

On July 26, 1996, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake, Comrade Jiang Zemin came to Tangshan to inspect and visit the Tangshan Earthquake Resistant Memorial Hall.

On July 28, 1996, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake, Comrade Li Peng came to Tangshan to inspect and visit the Tangshan Earthquake Resistant Memorial Hall.

On July 28, 2006, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake, Comrade Hu Jintao came to Tangshan to inspect and visit the Tangshan Earthquake Resistant Memorial Hall.
